You are what you believe in

Man collecting the stars and putting them in a wheelbarrow.

This man wasn’t having the best of days, if my guess is correct he might just have been contemplating suicide. Things were not exactly going the way he had hoped for. He was heartbroken and crushed, and out of that pain he wrote words so beautiful that they still continue to comfort people.

Still… because David, the author of some of the most powerful and healing poems in the world walked the earth a few thousand years ago. And though I know not how he looked or what his favourite colour was, I know one thing: beauty can grow out of the dead and the rotten. Here’s how David continues help the human bodies that like him are heartbroken and crushed:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

You are what you believe and David, despite his desperate circumstances, still believed that God was/is/will forever be in control.
