The fall

take
The fall didn’t last for long,
a minute or two,
but it felt like the heart had forever stopped.

The sides of the tunnel
were as rough as her fingers.
She tried to hold on
but the more she tried
the more she bled on.

And then she realised
where she finally was.
In a place she always knew about,
in a place she felt she belonged.

The mind played tricks
that she knew not much about.
She always thought she was living in a dream
when in reality it was her body buried deep within the ground
and her soul drowning in the sorrows of her personal hell.
